Lessons from the Journey: Migrating from a Legacy Salesforce Org to Education Cloud
Over the past year my team has begun embarking on the journey of migrating from a legacy, non-normalized, highly customized Salesforce org to a brand new Education Cloud org. Along the way many lessons of what to do and not to do have been gleaned. In this session, we will explore the key steps involved in migrating from a legacy Salesforce organization to a new Education Cloud org. Attendees will learn about the critical elements required for a successful migration, with a focus on leadership and stakeholder buy-in, data normalization, updating pipelines, and ensuring a smooth transition to the new system. Key takeaways include: Leadership Buy-In: We will discuss strategies for engaging senior leadership early in the process to align on vision, goals, and the long-term benefits of Education Cloud. As well as talk about the realities and challenges of what happens when leadership is disconnected from Salesforce and automation. Data Normalization: The session will cover best practices for auditing and normalizing legacy data to ensure a clean and structured transition to Education Cloud. We’ll highlight the importance of data consistency for accurate reporting and decision-making. Updating Pipelines: We will review the process we have taken to assess and redesign existing workflows and automation pipelines to leverage the capabilities of Education Cloud, ensuring a more efficient and streamlined process post-migration. Stakeholder Buy-In: Effective stakeholder engagement is critical to a smooth transition. We will share insights on how to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and IT teams, as well as strategies for providing training and support throughout the migration. Including, some roadblocks we ran into with our first phase of migration of users. This session will cover lessons learned along the way of what to do and not to do, ensuring streamlined operations, and better insights for data-driven decision-making.
